About Holmrook : : |

Holmrook is a linear village in the English county of Cumbria. The name is derived from the Scandinavian and means "Island of Rooks". The Irish left their mark here too, in the beautiful 9th century cross in the churchyard of St Paul's Ireton, a mile outside the village. St Paul's church is a Victorian replacement for a more ancient building, but it is noteworthy for stained-glass windows by Burne-Jones.
