| |
Kirkby Stephen is a small market town in Cumbria, England. It was historically part of Westmorland. The River Eden, rises 6 miles away in the fells above Mallerstang Dale, and passes east of the town centre. The town is notable for the large parish church, known locally as the "Cathedral of the Dales", which contains a relief of the Norse god Loki who is shown bound and chained. The town holds weekly markets and there are a number of antique shops located in the town, which also serves as a base for walking tours of the Dales.
